Depending on where you live Government Funding may take up to 3 years before you receive any funding, and it is dependent on if your child is eligible.
Therapy is expensive and waiting for therapy is not an option. Children need help now and we cannot afford to wait. Waiting means more money spent later in life, and less chance the child will grow to become a contributing member of society. One day the Government will step up and pay for services immediately upon diagnosis. Until then parents are unfortunately faced to pay out of their own pocket.
There are many resources that you can look into to help you pay for your child’s therapy. Below is a list of what many of our families have done.
Ontario Government Funding
Funding is provided through the Ministry of Community and Youth Services
In Ottawa , AIPEO (CHEO) has the contract for the Region. Once you receive funding you can select whether you want DSO (Direct Service Option… your child will go to AIPEO for services – http://www.cheo.on.ca/en/ibi OR DFO (Direct Funding Option) – where you can bring your child to Portia or another approved provider by AIPEO.
In Whitby , Kinark Family Services has the contract for the Region. Once you receive funding you can select whether you want DSO (Direct Service Option… your child will go to Kinark for services – http://www.kinark.on.ca OR DFO (Direct Funding Option) – where you can bring your child to Portia or another approved provider by Kinark.
If you or your spouse is a member of your employer’s group health benefits plan you will most likely have psychological insurance which can be used to help pay for therapy, parent training, and assessments.
